Steel Rose
Definitions for terms above: Hardness- Some rocks are harder than others. Diamonds are a hardness of 10 and your fingernail is at about 2.5. Any rock you use must be harder than your fingernail. If the bar graph is colored red then it is getting close to the fingernail test of 2.5. Solid quartz is a hardness of 7. This chart uses a scale of 1-10, 10 being a solid diamond (yellow all the way to the right). Blasted- Some boulders come from a solid rock being blasted into smaller pieces. Others boulders are dug out of the dirt. This scale shows how much of this rock has been blasted on an average. Dirty When Delivered- Some rocks come out of the dirt and are very dirty when they are delivered. If the dirt is a topsoil type of material, then the rocks will be much dirtier than if they are dug out of a sandy material. Blasted rocks will usually be pretty clean because the whole mountain they come out of is mostly rock and not dirt. This scale is to show you how close to the actual color your rock will be at the delivery time. Marbled Colors in Rock- Some rocks have swirls of contrasting colors in the rock while other rocks are just one solid color. This scale shows you when your rock will have more or less of this marbling. Frequent Shade Changes- This is information showing the consistency in color from rock to rock. More change in colors will tell you that your rocks will not be all the same color. Dominantly Flat Faces- Some rocks have a more rounded feel while other rocks are more broken feeling. The more flat the faces usually will tell you that this rock is more angular and less rounded. Heavy Texture- This information shows you how smooth the surface of the boulder is. The more heavy texture shows that the rock has more character on the surface. Sharp Corners- When rocks are broken they have more sharp corners. This can be something to think about when you are going to have little children climbing on the rocks frequently. All rocks will have some sharp corners, but some have more than others. Dependable Availability- Some of our rock suppliers have very dependable sources of rock and equipment to mine this rock. Other suppliers have rock supplies that come and go. We give some suppliers a low grade on dependable availability if their equipment is old and gives lots of problems.
